Participant & Family Guides guide

Preparing for an SDA inspection

Inspections are more useful when you're prepared. Bring the right people, ask your questions and take time to picture yourself living there.

Who to bring

  • A support person you trust — family, friend, advocate.
  • Your Support Coordinator, if available.
  • An occupational therapist for complex access questions.

What to bring

  • Your housing-requirements list.
  • A tape measure, a phone for photos, and a notebook.
  • Questions written down — it's easy to forget on the day.

What to try during the inspection

  • Move through the space as you would at home.
  • Check reach — switches, taps, cupboards, appliances.
  • Step outside — the neighbourhood matters too.
