Property listings use a lot of specialist words. Here's what the common ones mean in everyday language.
Getting in and around
- Level entry — no step at the front door.
- Wider doorways — usually so a wheelchair or walker fits comfortably.
- Reinforced ceilings — structure is ready for a hoist to be installed if you need one.
Bathroom and bedroom
- Roll-in shower — no lip to step over.
- Height-adjustable basin — sink you can use from a seated position.
- Turning circle — space to move a wheelchair in a full circle.
Support and safety
- Overnight-worker room — bedroom set aside for a support worker.
- Backup power — battery or generator that keeps critical equipment running in an outage.
- Assistive-tech provisioning — wiring and devices to control lights, doors, blinds.
