Questions to ask an SDA provider

Providers vary in how they run their SDA properties. Asking the same set of questions across your shortlist makes comparisons easier and helps avoid surprises later.

About the dwelling

  • Which SDA design category is this dwelling enrolled under?
  • When was it built or last modified, and by whom?
  • What is the current vacancy status, and how long has it been listed?

About the tenancy

  • What tenancy agreement is used, and who is my landlord?
  • What is the Reasonable Rent Contribution, and what else might I be asked to pay?
  • What happens if my needs or funding change?

About supports

  • Do I need to use a particular SIL provider, or can I choose?
  • How does overnight support work in this dwelling?
  • How is the transition from my current home managed?

About sharing

  • Who are the current housemates, and how are new housemates chosen?
  • What are the house rules for visitors, food, pets and shared spaces?

About the neighbourhood

  • What transport, health and community services are nearby?
  • What parking is available for family and support vehicles?
