SDA property inspection checklist

Use this checklist on every SDA property you inspect. Take photos and notes so you can compare properties on the same terms afterwards.

Entry and approach

  • Path from street or car to front door — width, surface, slope.
  • Doorway width, threshold height, door hardware.
  • Intercom or doorbell accessibility.

Living, kitchen and dining

  • Circulation space for a wheelchair or walker.
  • Bench and cooktop height; oven access.
  • Reach to switches, power points and controls.

Bedrooms

  • Circulation space around the bed and to the ensuite.
  • Ceiling structure and provision for a hoist (if relevant).
  • Storage — reachable hanging, shelving and drawers.

Bathrooms

  • Level-entry shower, seat, rails and turning space.
  • Toilet position, height and rails.
  • Basin and mirror reach.

Safety and back-up

  • Emergency egress and evacuation routes.
  • Backup power, if fitted, and what it covers.
  • Smoke alarms with visual/tactile alerts if required.

Outdoor and community

  • Outdoor space you can use.
  • Parking for family and support vehicles.
  • Distance to bus, tram, train, GP, pharmacy.
