Writing an accessible property description

A useful description helps a participant, family member or Support Coordinator work out whether the home is worth an enquiry in under a minute.

Structure that works

1. One-sentence summary of the home and what makes it distinctive.
2. Two or three paragraphs on access features — factual, specific.
3. A short paragraph on the household and support model.
4. A short paragraph on the neighbourhood and transport.

Plain-English guidance

• Prefer everyday words to industry acronyms — spell out the acronym on first use.
• Describe what a person can do in the home, not just the design category.
• Be honest about what the home is not designed for.
