How to find an SDA home

Finding an SDA home takes patience. There are far fewer SDA dwellings than there are people who need them, and the right home usually appears through a combination of active searching and alerts.

1. Write down your housing requirements

Before searching, capture what you need. See the housing-requirements guide for a full list.

2. Search by location and category

Start broad, then narrow. Try the SDA search, or browse state pages such as SDA homes in Victoria.

3. Set up property alerts

Suitable homes appear intermittently. A saved-search alert emails you when a listing matches your requirements.

4. Ask providers questions early

Contact the provider for each shortlisted property. Use the provider question list and record answers.

5. Inspect in person where possible

Photos never show everything. Use the inspection checklist to compare properties on the same terms.
